The Leftfield Collection, a curated selection of indie projects, has been a staple of EGX and EGX Rezzed for years. But with two of the UK's biggest gaming shows unable to take place physically, the collection's existence for 2020 was in doubt.
Today, however, organiser ReedPop confirmed that The Leftfield Collection would form part of EGX Digital, an online alternative of the two expos taking place from September 12-20. As is tradition, this year's offering will "be showcasing interesting, creative, and fun games and game-like projects." If you want your project to be part of that, you can submit your game here from now until August 28.
When I spoke to UK devs about the postponement (and eventual cancellation) of EGX Rezzed at the start of the pandemic, Alan Hazelden, developer of A Good Snowman is Hard to Build and Sokobond, highlighted the importance of The Leftfield Collection as a unique resource for developers whose work might never see the light of day elsewhere. It's good to see that even with the difficulties facing EGX this year, the important work of the Collection won't be lost.
