The Epic Games Store's approach to giveaways seems to be working out. Yesterday, the company announced that during recent promotional campaign 'The Vault', it reached a concurrent player count of 13 million.
The Vault started last month, and involved some seriously impressive giveaways, including Grand Theft Auto V, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, and Civilization VI. The GTA giveaway in particular proved so popular that it temporarily crashed the store, but helped set records in terms of concurrent players and monthly active users, which topped 61 million.
Those numbers are still a decent way behind Epic's main competitor - Steam's concurrent users have grown significantly in recent months, peaking at more than 23 million, while its monthly users hit 90 million in 2019. Nevertheless Epic's efforts - fuelled though they may be by some big giveaways - are impressive, especially when you consider its relative youth in comparison to Valve's platform.
