The Lord of the Rings Online community have come together to remember British actor Sir Ian Holm, the actor who portrayed Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's film trilogy, who died last week at the age of 88. Gatherings took place on multiple servers throughout the weekend.
On Reddit, user RoadRageWorker said that on their server, players gathered in front of Bilbo's fictional home of Bag End. Another said that so many players joined the gathering that "it basically broke the whole Shire during the gathering." Elsewhere in the game, developer Standing Stones has made the Baggins' Birthday quest playable again until June 23.
Holm may have been best known for his role as Bilbo, but was already well established by then, having been nominated for an Oscar for his role in 1981's Chariots of Fire. He was also known as Alien's Ash, and for his work in theatre.
