A number of major studios are getting involved with a scheme designed to tackle loneliness in the UK. The Play & Talk weekend, which takes place on June 20-21, will be supported by the likes of Ubisoft, EA, and Wargaming.
In total, more than 50 studios will be involved in the scheme, which is taking place during National Loneliness Awareness Week, itself part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport's 'Let's Talk Loneliness' campaign. The Play & Talk weekend aims to encourage people to find an hour to reconnect over a videogame, whether or not they normally tend to play.
National Loneliness Awareness Week has been running since 2017, but is arguably more relevant than ever in 2020. With the coronavirus lockdown making it difficult to connect with friends in person, videogames have proved an important part of keeping many social groups together.
