Thanks to Raytracing, Minecraft Looks More Beautiful Than Ever

By Alistair Jones on at

Nvidia is working on Minecraft raytracing for a while, collaborating with well-known community creators to get the once blocky sandbox looking brand new. Yesterday, the fruits of those labours were unveiled for the first time, and Mojang's phenomenon looks fantastic.

Nvidia showed off three new worlds. 'Crystal Palace' is a survival map themed around a 1:1 castle, while 'Imagination Island' is a theme park split into four different areas, each showing off an element of the raytracing that inspired them. My personal favourite is 'Of Temples and Totems', an adventure world which tasks players with exploring mysterious temples.

If you've somehow never given Minecraft a go, all this self-isolation makes for a good opportunity to pick it up at a bargain price. Admittedly, you won't be able to get it looking quite this good just yet, but with official raytracing on the way, now seems as good a time as any to start preparing your beautiful new world.
