Self-isolation is hitting all of us pretty hard, but hey, at least you're not stuck on a deserted island with people you barely know. For a few of the villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it would seem that their situation is starting to get to them.
Beau, a deer villager who's been around since New Leaf, has quite a lot to say on the subject of life-as-simulation. As documented in a tweet posted last night, one of the conversations you can have with Beau has him tell you about a rumour that "the island is just a game. Everything we say? Or do? It's just to amuse somebody else."

Beau makes a compelling case, noting the speed at which your island's fruit grows, and the fact that those fruit trees are each made up of three different types of wood. Most accurate is his character assassination of Tom Nook "'Yeah, I'll buy your seashells so you can give me back my own money to pay off a house I'm selling to you."
By the time Beau gets to the end of his little speech, he's having a full-fledged breakdown, declaring that "our lives are fake." Thankfully, however, he does come out and reveal he's been pranking you the entire time, because otherwise I don't know how long I could keep on playing.
