You cannot pet the dogs in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but that hasn't stopped an entire speedrunning community springing up around interacting with Hyrule's four-legged friends. Last month saw speedrunner Viroxe break the record for the 'All Dogs Treasures' run, which requires players to feed the canines scattered throughout the game as quickly as possible.
Each run starts off much as you might expect, with players attempting to get through the opening trials as quickly as possible, using a number of well-known exploits. After that, the aim is to collect as much food and wood as possible to entice your canine companions, but there are still a number of things that can go wrong.
Even once you've found a dog, you need to wait for them to actually accept your offerings. BotW's physics can also derail a run, as a misplaced apple can easily roll out of even the most eagle-eyed dog's vision. The most important part of the run, however, is the lengthy 'From the Ground Up' questline, which players need to finish to unlock the final dog. It seems like a lot of work just to feed one last hungry pup, but I suppose it's worth it for the world record.
