Netflix has officially confirmed that it's working on an animated take on The Witcher. In a tweet last night, the streaming platform revealed that the new story will be titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.
Rumours had been swirling about an animated film adaptation for a while, but a recent report from Redanian Intelligence discovered the involvement of The Witcher season one writer Beau DeMayo earlier this week. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich is also involved, as is Legend of Korra studio Studio Mir, but further details are pretty scarce.
The rumors are true, a new Witcher story is in the works! The anime film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, will take us back to a new threat facing the Continent. Brought to you by the Witcher team @LHissrich and @BeauDeMayo, and Studio Mir the studio behind Legend of Korra.

It's difficult to even determine what we could expect from the story. the titular nightmare could be something that Geralt is suffering from, but it could equally refer to the witcher himself. If I were to guess, that "new threat facing the continent" might suggest that the story could introduce the concept of the Wild Hunt to the Netflix audience, but that's likely to just be wishful thinking.
There's no word on when the anime will arrive, but with the second series not due to arrive until 2021, fans are hoping that the film will release some time later this year. Given the success of the first season, Netflix is likely hoping to keep the hype train rolling over the next 12 months.
