Temtem, a new MMO that draws heavily on the Pokémon series for inspiration, hits early access later today. To celebrate, developer Crema has released a launch trailer that also draws heavily on the Pokémon (anime) series.
The trailer, which you can check out below, introduces a few ways in which the game differs from the series which came before it. There are different creatures, of course, but while Pokémon tends to be a largely solo affair for much of its story content, Temtem is a primarily multiplayer experience, and the world you inhabit is full of other players to battle and trade with.
If you can ignore some of the more lore-driven lyrics behind the trailer's backing track, it's a nice little bop. The real star of the show, however, are the battles. If you've ever seen so much as a single clip from the Pokémon anime, you'll have a decent idea of what's going on. The game's turn-based combat can't quite live up the high-speed scrap happening here, but that's never stopped me enjoying Ash's adventures, and it's not likely to hold me back now either.
