If 2013 was the Year of Luigi, it looks like 2020 is shaping up to be the Year of Sonic. In an announcement last night, Sega confirmed it'll be sharing new information about everyone's favourite blue hedgehog every month this year.
A translated version of that statement says that the new project (dubbed Sonic2020) will deliver various new information and projects related to Sonic will be launched every month on the 20th during 2020." There's no word on what those new projects will be just yet, but if you're so inclined, you can pick up a bunch of special artwork to celebrate the scheme, or submit fan art for Sega to feature on its official channels.
The statement says that "a variety of related events" are scheduled throughout the year to build "momentum" ahead of Sonic's 30th anniversary next year. Presumably that's pointing vaguely in the direction of a new game - Team Sonic Racing released last year, but the last 'traditional' Sonic games were Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, which both released in 2017, so it wouldn't surprise me if Sega was gearing up for a new main series entry.
