Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Dev Says "We Are Not Working on Any Kind of Loot Box System"

A senior Call of Duty: Modern Warfare developer says that reports of an as-yet unannounced lootbox system are inaccurate. In a post on Reddit last night, Infinity Ward’s studio art director Joel Emslie said more information would be shared soon.

Emslie says that “there continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare. What I can say right now is that we are definitely not working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system. Also, functional stuff is unlocked through gameplay.”

The statement is most likely a response to assets found during last month’s beta, which show a section of the ‘after action report’ dedicated to lootboxes. While no artwork was in place during the test, the words “common supply drop” are clearly visible. Given, however, that “functional stuff” is apparently unlockable through gameplay, Emslie seems to be suggesting that while certain items can be earned, you won't be able to pay for them.

Either way, we'll find out soon. Emslie added that more information should be available later this week, and the game itself isn’t too far away - Modern Warfare releases at the end of next week, on October 25.
