Your first chance to play Warcraft III: Reforged might be just around the corner. Last night, Blizzard pushed an update to its Battle.net launcher which includes a beta option for the iconic RTS’s upcoming remake.
Wowhead spotted the previously-absent beta branch last night, but sadly there’s no option to actually play at this point. Elsewhere, however, dataminer Martin Benjamins tweeted that the beta was “being prepared,” linking out to a number of files with names like ‘w3_beta’ and ‘W3_PRERELEASE_MESSAGE.’
While those aren’t definitive proof that a beta is on the horizon, they’re the most concrete clues we’ve had for a long time. Warcraft III: Reforged is still set for a release some time this year, but a beta was supposed to arrive early this year. Months on from that planned launch, Blizzcon – which takes place at the beginning of November – could be a good place to announce an official release date and launch the game’s beta.
