Dozens of employees were reportedly laid off at Sony’s European offices in London earlier this week. According to a report from VGC, American directors visited the Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe office on Tuesday, where they announced the restructuring of several departments.
Employees affected by the redundancies were reportedly either given notice, or informed that they would need to re-interview for their jobs. Marketing and PR departments appear to have been particularly affected by the lay-offs, which came on the same day as the official announcement of the PS5.
Layoffs also appear to have affected Sony teams in America. On Tuesday, artist JC Hernandez tweeted to say that he “was part of the creative services team at PlayStation that got laid off today.”
I was part of the creative services team at #PlayStation that got #laidoff today. This group of talented & passionate people are out of a job & now #lookingforwork. If you’re hiring for project coordinators, managers, & designers please post below!

Sony had previously announced its desire to restructure in April 2018, when sales and marketing teams across America, Europe, and Japan were all told they would report directly to then-deputy president Jim Ryan.
We reached out to Sony Europe for confirmation of this news, but were told the company wouldn't be making any comment.
