Apex Legends' Datamined Halloween Event Features Hordes of Undead Players

Spooky season is almost upon us but, for the Apex Legends community, just how scary it gets is all down to the game’s recently-released third season. Respawn has yet to officially announce its plans, but dataminers have uncovered evidence of what seems to be a full-featured Halloween mode.

Apex Legends dataminer Shrugtal, who’s made something of a name for themselves thanks to a run of accurate findings, uncovered evidence of a new mode called Shadowfall. A description in the game’s files says it will take place in an abandoned version of King’s Canyon, and will be hosted “by a mysterious figure known only as Revenant.”

While the battle royale is usually played in groups of three, Shadowfall seems to be a solo offering. The twist is that when you die, you’re reborn as part of the Shadow Squad: “an ever-growing faction of dark Legends who return from the dead to haunt their living counterparts.”

Videos uncovered by Shrugtal suggest that the Shadow Squad is terrifyingly fast and will deal increased melee damage, which probably means you’ll want legends who are quick on their feet in order to counter them. At the end of the game, the last ten living players will need to join forces, fighting against the undead horde as they attempt to escape.

If those undead players weren’t bad enough, you’ll be joined on the map by zombies who’ll leave the dropship alongside you, and some loot crates will feature zombies and spiders, which will leap out when you open them up. Arachnophobes may want to steer clear, as Shrugtal says there’s also a massive asset called ‘Spidercaves’ nestling on the Halloween map.

The discoveries extend to even more information about Revenant. The announcer comes with ability entries in certain datamined files, and appears to be the official name of an unreleased legend codenamed ‘Blackout.’ There’s no word on when Revenant, or indeed Shadowfall, could be released, but with Halloween only a few weeks away, the smart money's on Apex Legends’ fallen getting restless soon.
