Bungie says it will release a new, non-Destiny game before 2025. In an interview with IGN, CEO Pete Parsons said that the new title is part of the studio’s aim to become “a place that makes the world’s best entertainment.”
That’s a grand ambition, but Parsons has a plan to make it happen. The Destiny series will remain a main focus for the studio, and attempts will be made to “transform” the sci-fi epic over the next several years, and the CEO goes on to say: "By 2025 we have a pretty specific path to make sure we transform Destiny and that we have other franchises within the marketplace."
While that new franchise might excite fans, Parsons frames it as part of a wider strategy for Bungie to go back to “some of its original roots,” in which it will be “both developer and publisher.”
2025 is a long way off, but this is a statement of intent from Bungie – though needless to say that at this point there are no real details on the publishing strategy or what the new franchise might involve. Given the studio’s output over the last couple of decades, a sci-fi shooter is a fair guess, but we'll be waiting several years to find out.
