Last Thursday evening, Sony aired its second State of Play video presentation, PlayStation's answer to Nintendo Direct. The presentation was only ten minutes long, but was bookended by a pair of pretty exciting trailers. The presentation ended with a trailer for the remake of Final Fantasy VII, and began with a trailer for the new Monster Hunter World DLC, Iceborne, which releases on 6th September 2019.
With this massive expansion DLC just four months from release, it seems like a push is being made to get new players trying out Monster Hunter World in time to be ready for the expansion. For the next seven days, if you're a PS4 owner, you can try out a pretty expansive demo for Monster Hunter World and get a good feel for if it's right for you.
Running until Monday 20th May, Monster Hunter World Trial Version lets you play the full game, up to a certain point. You can play right from the start of the story, creating and customising your character, fighting through all eight assignments up to three star quests. You can also explore two of the base game's five areas, Ancient Forest and Wildspire Waste. Your save data will work with the full game if you decide to purchase it, and online multiplayer allows you to play with those who own the full game without being limited to other free players.
So, if that trailer looked cool to you and you need an excuse to find out if you like Monster Hunter, this week seems like a good time to find out. If you're an Xbox One player, the demo isn't available to you, but Monster Hunter World is included as part of Xbox Game Pass. You can still grab three months for £1 if you're not currently a member.
