Japan's Getting These Lush Translucent Neo Geo Minis in June

By CJ Wheeler on at

Do you really like Samurai Shodown? Not much? Translucent or transparent console hardware though? Yeah, sign me up for that.

Good job for Japanese hardware collectors then that SNK is releasing these sweet limited edition Neo Geo Minis priced at 15,000 yen (£105) on June 27 – the original Neo Geo Mini was released in Japan and internationally last year (thanks NintendoLife). Bundled with the Neo Geo Mini Limited Edition are a USB-C power cable, HDMI cable, character stickers and cards, and two controllers which weren't included with the original Neo Geo Mini.

Each of these new limited editions showcases artwork of Samurai Shodown's Haohmaru, Nakoruru and Ukyo Tachibana. My absolute favourite characters from the series, I assure you wholeheartedly. (I've never played a Samurai Shodown game in my life, sorry. Chalk it up to backlog).

Translucent white-ish clear-sort-of-see-through!

Translucent red-ish clear-sort-of-see-through!

Translucent blue-ish clear-sort-of-see-through!

Oh and here's a list of titles included on each console that's handily translated for those of us who can't read Japanese (courtesy of Gematsu). I've played each and every one of these games from start to completion multiple times. Honestly.

This isn't the first limited run Neo Geo Mini that SNK's released – a festive, reindeer-themed red and gold version was announced last Christmas and included an extra eight games. Let's hope we see a few more as these are a very cool nostalgic nod to hardware gone by. If you want one then keep in mind that 20,000 of each of these latest limited editions will be produced. That's a lot of Samurai Shodown fans.

Pre-orders open on May 16. [NintendoLife/Gematsu]
