A few months back, PlayStation fans got the somewhat disappointing news that Sony had no plans for a prescence at E3. No press conference, no booth space, nothing.
However, an announcement made by the company today perhaps sheds some light on what it plans to do instead.
Announced today via a blog post, PlayStation is launching 'State of Play', a live broadcast that will bring "updates and announcements from the world of PlayStation". Essentially, it appears to be PlayStation’s answer to Nintendo Direct and Inside Xbox.
The first episode will air at 9pm this Monday, 25th March, and promises to showcase new gameplay, release dates, as well as brand new game announcements. The livestream will be broadcast on Twitch, YouTube, and Twitter, before being posted afterwards as a VoD on YouTube.
State of Play will be a regular livestream series throughout the year, and it feels likely we will see one around the time of E3, the way Nintendo does a Direct rather than a press conference.
