Earlier this week, we saw the surprise release of Apex Legends, a free-to-play battle royale game set in the Titanfall universe. The game's surprise release did make folk wonder whether or not we'll get a Titanfall 3.
Apex Legends' lead producer Drew McCoy said that Titanfall 3 is not currently in development, but apparently some kind of new Titanfall-linked thing is on the way. I say 'thing' rather than game because, as you'll see, Vince Zampella and EA CEO Andrew Wilson are being very careful with their words.
Initially the return of the Titans was teased by Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn.
Tons of things planned for @PlayApex in the future. We are also committed to listening to player feedback.
We are also working on more Titanfall for later in the year (yes, I said the T word). We love being able to experiment in this crazy universe!

Following this, CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed on an earnings call that Respawn has been working on a new "truly creative take" on Titanfall. The title will not be a free-to-play game.
While I don't have more to share with the particulars of what we have coming from Titanfall, Respawn are a tremendously creative team. They always anticipated that Apex Legends would be a spectacular game in the battle royale genre, and that they'd use that as a ramp point to deliver a truly creative take on what Titanfall is in a premium context later on in the year.
It doesn't sound like this is structurally going to be Titanfall 3 – don't expect a game just about wall running, shooting and mechs – but it does mean that Apex Legends won't be the only taste of this universe we get from Respawn in 2019.
