Switch Hackers are Inserting Porn into Mario Odyssey

Via a recent piece of Switch developer software making it into the hands of hackers, Mario Odyssey now contains pornographic content, and it might end up in front of younger players with Switch systems which have not personally been hacked.

Reddit user Ewasion spotted the issue, and reported it on the Nintendo Switch subreddit. Basically, he was playing Mario Odyssey's online Luigi's Balloon World mode, and spotted pornographic images where there should have appeared Switch user profile images.

Normally, these user images are only able to either be Miis, or stock images of Nintendo characters. However, Polygon notes that Switch hackers recently came into possession of a piece of development software called DevMenu, which among other things allows them to upload custom images to the switch for use as user icons. These custom images it would appear are then able to appear online in games like Mario Odyssey.

Currently, Nintendo has not addressed the issue of custom user images, which means that currently, while not likely, you may run the risk of seeing users in online games with pornographic icons.
