Step aside Kratos, there's a new vengeful daddy in town, courtesy of wonderfully stylised PS4, Xbox One, and PC adventure Unto the End.
Developed by 2 Ton Studios and due next year, Unto the End is a narrative-driven single-player experience that emphasises "unforgiving encounters, skillful combat, and stark moments of beauty". There's ample evidence of the latter in its gorgeously atmospheric reveal trailer, which slipped out during the hubbub of E3:
And if you're in need of any more scene-setting, here's the official story blurb:
Frigid steel drawn in anger. The beast roars, tearing away your strength and humanity. Blood splashes on the snow. Ragged breath streams from an exhausted body. Your family is slaughtered. You could not protect them. You wake. You survived. Vengeance is all that remains…
There's talk of "choice and consequence" to encourage multiple play-throughs but, beyond that, further details are a little thin on the ground right now. For the time being, I've lodged Unto the End deep into my memory hole and will keep an eye on its progress as that 2018 release approaches. In the meantime, have a couple of wonderfully evocative screenshots to keep you going.
