God of War 4 Leak Suggests Kratos is Diving into Norse Mythology

By Julian Benson on at

It looks like God of War 4 will be taking the action away from its Greek setting and throwing (a now bearded) Kratos into battle with the gods of Norse mythology.

The new information comes from a stack of images leaked by NerdLeaks (via Eurogamer) yesterday evening. While the article is currently down, NeoGAF was quick to grab images and rehost them on imgur, creating a gallery of more than 40 concept art images of what is supposedly God of War 4.

Details besides the concept art (which was found in a Sony Santa Monica artist's portfolio) are slim but according to a NeoGAF quote from the NerdLeaks article (which I've not been able to verify), the game will be set in Norse mythology, will see Kratos visit Alfheim, the 'Land of the Faeries', and Kratos will be a prisoner.

Features-wise (besides the beard), "Kratos has an Axe, with which he can cut vines and create bridges/walkways".

You can check out the complete galleries over on Imgur. Here's one last image:

I'm a big fan of Norse mythology so I hope, if the leak is correct, that the story will take us to places other than Alfheim. I want to play through Asgard and go to the root of the world tree to see Loki trapped in the roots of Yggdrasil, battling with Níðhöggr. It's definitely an underutilising setting for action games.
