Fighting Game RPG Looks Like an Open World Studio Ghibli Film

Shiness' world is drop dead gorgeous. I've had to watch this video twice to pay attention to anything other than the wonderfully colourful cel-shaded environments. This is the first footage of Shiness in action and, if you're not to preoccupied by how pretty it looks, it shows off combat, puzzle-solving, and a brief glimpse of the RPG systems that underpin everything.

That opening shot of Chado running through the environment looks eerily like a Studio Ghibli film. The art style has already sold me on Shiness. According to the video and a press release sent through this morning, combat will be filled with parrying, dodges, and combo moves—pulling in techniques we'd normally find in fighting games, not RPGs. If it's anything like the combat in Rocksteady's Arkham games, I'll be very happy.

There are five different characters, with the expected different skill-sets, and you switch between them to get around. The video shows how one character, Chado, can summon a boulder he can use to press down pressure pads. Another character, Kayenne, can move things around with her mind.

Shiness is due out this year but this is the first we've actually seen of the game in action, so I'd expect it to be towards the latter half of the year, if it doesn't get delayed. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it now.
