The ZX Spectrum is Returning. Again. Again. (Again)

By Ian Dransfield on at

There's another new-old Speccy on the way, with the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+ bringing back the classic home computer – again. Only this time it's in handheld form.

Apparently bringing back the Spectrum once wasn't good enough, so we get to go through this intense nostalgia-blast once more, in portable form.

I'm talking as if this is definitely happening, but at the time of writing the IndieGoGo campaign is £4.5k off its £100,000 goal; I fully expect that to be met by the end of the day, if not in just a few hours.

When it inevitably does launch, the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+ will come with around 1,000 games built in, and will be around the same price as the non-handheld Vega: £100.

As well as having its built-in LCD screen, the Vega+ can be connected to the TV, so it can be used just like the original Vega. Which makes me think some original Vega owners will be a bit sad about the whole thing, as they can't carry theirs around and play it. Poor them.

Anyway, go read this highly relevant feature – and watch the video of Speccy Mortal Kombat in action, because games are great and all that.
