Here's What to Do if You Keep Getting Stuck on Terminals in Fallout 4

By Keza MacDonald on at

Playing on PC last night, my partner kept running up against a game-breaking Fallout 4 bug: every time he used a terminal, the game would lock up and leave him unable to move.

If this is happening to you, too, Redditor venusia94 has a worked out a fix:

Go to your Fallout directory, ie: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Fallout4

Edit Fallout4Prefs, and change iPresentInterval=1 to iPresentInterval=0

If that doesn't work, try editing Fallout4 and Fallout4Prefs found at C:\Users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Fallout4

These files seem to get re-written everytime you launch, try setting them to 'read only' to fix this.

The problem - as far as I can work out with my complete absence of technical knowledge, from reading around the various forums discussing this issue - is to do with framerate. Anything above 90-100fps causes various problems with the game.

Another thing to try, which has worked for my partner: before you load the game, in the settings, check the "windowed" and "borderless" boxes.

Or you could just wait for a patch.
