Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that Pikmin 4 is a thing that exists in the real world, and that it is very close to completion. He's also chatted up the possibility of Mario Galaxy 3, with the consensus seemingly 'it's still on the cards, but don't hold your breath'.
Pikmin 4 was very close to completion back when Eurogamer interviewed him back in July. So by now it should be finished, right? Right? I'm jonesing for some Pikmin action.
"It's actually very close to completion," Miyamoto told the site, "Pikmin teams are always working on the next one."
And when Nintendo was pushed for further comment, the usually secretive company came forward with this very statement:
"We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present."
Miyamoto also chatted with the site about the possibility of Mario Galaxy 3 coming out at any point in the future:
"Me and [Yoshiaki] Koizumi-san, director of Galaxy, are always looking to challenge Galaxy and do another 3D action title," Miyamoto said, "However we can't make so many games at once in parallel.
"But as the hardware technology gets better and advances, I think there will be a lot of opportunity for both options."
Miyamoto explained there were complaints about Mario's previous 3D outings for players who couldn't cope - maybe because of difficulty in dealing with 3D spaces, or something like motion sickness. This is another thing that would need to be addressed before a new Mario Galaxy hits.
"We're always thinking, is there a middle ground where people who do enjoy the 3D worlds of Galaxy and those who enjoy New Super Mario Bros. can both enjoy it?
"We're always looking at those opportunities."
The question has to be raised, then - will Pikmin 4 be coming to Wii U? 3DS? Or could it be a launch title for Nintendo's next console, the NX? And will Mario Galaxy 3 actually happen? I'm not putting money on it, but I will wager my reputation on both coming to NX.
Joke's on you, there - I have no reputation.
