I wasn't a great fan of Far Cry 4 keeping its yetis hidden in its DLC. Now Ubi has shown off a walkthrough of the new expansion and I'm a little less annoyed.
This new DLC takes place in a completely new, snow-covered area, much like the mountain top missions in the main game. In a similar way to the previous Escape From Durgesh Prison DLC, it's also built around a central goal, achieved by unlocking helpful extras through side missions. Here, however, instead of trying to escape jail, Valley of the Yetis involves securing a base and surviving progressively hard night time attacks - performing side missions to bolster defences with traps. First, it's against the former owners of the base, and later against yetis themselves.
Structurally there's enough of a difference here, with its horde mode aesthetic, for this to seem to much less like a set of held back missions packaged up as a separate story. The rolling, improvisational nature of Far Cry 4's combat has always been its best bit, so I like the idea of building something around that. Plus I've been away from Kyrat long enough to want to go back.
It's out now for season pass owners, and on general release tomorrow.
