Advanced Warfare is Waving the Banhammer at Playing Badly on Purpose

By Leon Hurley on at

Sledgehammer boss Michael Condry has written a blog post to highlight an upcoming focus on 'reverse boosting', the abuse of Advanced Warfare's skill-based matchmaking.

The idea of reverse boosting is to play badly and lower your skill ranking so that you're matched up with lesser players you can then abuse. It's something I've seen mentioned several times in association with YouTubers - how do you capture yourself looking great in a match? Reverse boost yourself into a crappier game so you look amazing playing against players that aren't as good as you.

That said, Condry's post focuses more on the cost to people playing with those in the process of reverse boosting: "No one wants to lose an objective based match by effectively being outnumbered while their teammate shoots grenades into their own forehead 100 times in the corner," he states.

Whoever's playing the price, Condry states "we have increased our focus on reverse boost banning to combat the growing issue", adding "we have a low tolerance approach to people who ruin the experience for others through cheating, boosting, reverse boosting or being caught with toxic emblems in game."
