I went to visit Surgeon Simulator creator Bossa Studios last week to play its latest creation, I Am Bread, and talk about the game. (It's just revealed a 6th of December release date, which hadn't been announced when I was there.)
[Update: I've just been told it's now releasing today, the 3rd of December. ]
The most surprising thing about I Am Bread is just how much of an actual 'game' it is. Surgeon Simulator, with its flailing control scheme, was more of a comedy device than actual serious challenge. This on the other hand, despite its obvious humour, is really playable, with echoes of things like Katamari Damacy. There's a weight and heft to the slice that, combined with the in-game physics, makes slinging it about immediately rewarding - get a feel for the movement and it's damn near acrobatic. Check out the video and you'll see what I mean.
