Xbox's Phil Spencer just tweeted that the acquisition of Minecraft developer Mojang has now gone through, making the studio officially part of Microsoft.
It’s official, today we welcome Mojang to the Microsoft Studios family. We're excited for the possibilities ahead w/the Minecraft community. — Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) November 6, 2014
A couple of weeks back Phil was answering questions about the future for both the studio and the game. At the time the sale hadn't gone through but he spoke of seeing Xbox as "shepherds of the IP", while admitting 'Minecraft 2' probably wasn't the way forward.
Whatever happens next, there's no going back: Mojang, and Minecraft, belongs to Microsoft.
