Animal Gods is a Bronze-Age Homage to 2D Zelda

A particular Kickstarter project caught my eye recently: Animal Gods, a pretty 2D adventure game that cites Zelda and Chrono Trigger as influences. It looks a little rough right now (as early Kickstarter demos often do), but the art style reminds me of Supergiant's work (Transistor, Bastion) and the concept is intriguing: it's an open-world 2D action-RPG set in Bronze Age Europe.

There's not a great deal to go on, but it's setting off my "interesting" sensors nonetheless. I'm intrigued by two things: firstly, the assertion that the open-world environment will let you explore dungeons et cetera in whatever order you wish (a la Link Between Worlds), and the promise of sophisticated and involved FF6/Chrono-Trigger-like characters and storyline. It's aiming for Nintendo Wii U, PC, Mac and Linux in 2016. It's a fair way from its funding goal right now, but it's got time left; the Kickstarter page is right here if you want to take a look.
