Activision Blowing $500 Million On Destiny and Needs 15 Million Sales TO BREAK EVEN

The cash figures for Destiny are almost beyond belief. In an interview with Reuters CEO Kotick revealed the game will have clocked up the $500 million figure thanks to combined development and promotion costs.

As Kotick understates, "The stakes for us are getting bigger". That figure's obviously not just development with, "marketing, packaging, infrastructure support, royalties and other costs" mentioned. Analysts predict that at a $60 cost, 15-16 million games will have to be sold before the title sees a profit. For reference there's mention of GTA 5's current sales figures: 32.5 million units sold and nearly $2 billion made.

In Activision's favor the IP is planned to be an ongoing concern for quite some time with Reuters stating: "The company signed a 10-year contract with Bungie in 2010 that gives it worldwide distribution rights and significant control over the potential franchise's development". As the report mentions several times however, that's still one hell of gamble, especially considering Patricia's thoughts on actually playing Destiny.
