Sam Fisher Disapproves: Criminals Using Drones to Locate and Steal Drugs

By Leon Hurley on at

I don't think anyone predicted this from playing Splinter Cell but UK criminals are using drones with thermal imaging to locate and steal from cannabis farms.

The hydroponic and lighting set ups used to grow the plant produce a lot of heat and while the police can use this to locate growers it seems criminals are making better use of the tech to steal and extort from farms. Here's what one criminal interviewed about the practice had to say:

“They are fair game. It is not like I'm using my drone to see if people have nice televisions. I am just after drugs to steal and sell, if you break the law then you enter me and my drone's world. Half the time we don’t even need to use violence to get the crop. Growing cannabis has gone mainstream and the people growing it are not gangsters, especially in places like Halesowen, Cradley Heath and Oldbury.”
