It’s the future! Well, maybe it isn’t, but either way virtual reality is on the cusp of changing games forever. This is where to read about Sony’s Project Morpheus, Oculus Rift, and all the weird, wonderful and mildly disturbing experiences that they enable.
Toddler-horror game Among the Sleep is coming to the PlayStation 4 — with virtual reality support. As if playing a small child exploring a dark house in search of his missing mother isn't scary enough already.
"It was our department that said we need [the DualShock 4 light] for tracking for VR. When everyone was going 'it's reflecting in my TV,' we couldn't tell anyone what it was for." Jed Ashforth, senior designer at Sony Europe.
I love virtual reality but Sony's Project Morpheus demo The Deep looks like some kind of horrible torture. I found myself holding my breath several times during this direct feed video of it in action, and that was before the shark showed up. Enjoy. Or not, more likely.
There's totally a chance that Birdly, a device which allows you to simulate flying like a bird, could be an amazing experience. But that doesn't make this elaborate set-up, which includes a fan, a scent machine, and the Oculus Rift, any less ridiculous.
Loading Human, the motion-controlled VR dream simulator for PC, is now on Kickstarter. Untold Games aims to collect $30,000 (£17,700) for their game, which has transitioned from Unity to Unreal Engine 4 (with pretty results, as seen in the vid above) and is now also approved for release on the PS4.
