Fortnite's Playground mode, where players can jump in, practice gunplay with fast respawn active, practice building without worrying about the storm and generally just mess around worry-free, has been a long time in the works. The first week after it was launched, it was offline due to maintenance issues.
While it's now finally active and working as intended, it is a limited time mode, and as such won't be in rotation forever. We now know when it'll be going away, and what it'll be like next time it pops up in game.
Playground is leaving gameplay rotation on 12th July. That's next Thursday, when Fortnite season 5 kicks off. However, it is definitely coming back at some unplanned point in the future, and we know what it will look like when it does.
When Fortnite next allows players to jump into Playground, not only will players be able to pick teams from within the mode, but they'll also have access to the following new features:
- 1v1s and 2v2s
- Aim assist for controllers
- Editing other player’s structures
- Traps affecting teammates/enemies correctly
- Highlighting teammates on the map
- Damaging enemies with your pickaxe
Epic wants Playground to be the first step towards creating a formal creative mode for Fortnite, and the upcoming changes to the mode will help them get there.
