It's that time again folks: some media executives saw Pokemon Go and liked the smell of money. Fast-forward a couple of years and et voila!
The Walking Dead: Our World is an AR survival game, powered by Google Maps and developed by Finnish studio Next Games, where players go out in the real world hoping to collect resources and survive the zombie apocalypse. Launching some time in Q2 2018, the game will allow players to fight off walkers alongside characters from the show including Rick, Daryl, and Michonne. Here's the logo.
The Walking Dead: Our World also uses AR camera tech to add elements from the game into the world around you. Here's some brief nuggets from the PR blurb:
The partnership will see world-famous landmarks businesses and buildings, such as the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, the London Eye, and Burj Khalifa, integrated into the game, making exploring surroundings a breath-taking experience.
Google Maps will provide the most up-to-date location data, meaning that when new buildings or roads are built, they’ll be in the game, creating an immersive and realistic experience tied to the players’ location.
The Walking Dead: Our World will enable players to fully immerse themselves into the action of the hit TV show by blending digital objects, such as characters and other game elements, with the players’ own environment.
So Pokemon Go, themed around zombies instead of pocket monsters, with plenty of shootybangs going on. Should be alright? We'll certainly be keeping an eye out for it - in the meantime, here's the trailer.
