In the latest PR stunt from the wonderful world of video games, Microsoft are tasking Sea of Thieves players next week with winning an incredibly valuable set of golden bananas. Yes, really, Redmond paid a high-end jeweller (goldsmiths Smith & Harris of Hatton Garden) to crack out a bunch of four golden bananas.
The inedible fruit is valued at £80,000 for the bunch, which is pretty mind-boggling. Of course, finding someone who'd give you that for price for them would be another matter – some might say a fruitless pursuit!
How do you bag a banana? The competition details are:
- Everything kicks off on Monday 19th March at 08:00 GMT when the first clue is released.
- The remainder of the clues will be released every few hours over 3 days until Wednesday 21st March at 21:00 GMT – this will be the time the final clue is released and teams can submit their answers.
- The fastest and most accurate responses will go through to a grand final… and be in with the chance of winning the golden bananas.
The competition is running in six countries around the world (UK, US, Australia, France, Germany and Canada) and the grand final will take place on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd March, tasking each cunning crew with solving a final riddle.
So, do you have what it takes to win a bunch of bananas so extravagant? When you gaze upon a tasty fruit, do you think 'if only this was more ostentatious, and would break my teeth while providing no sustenance'? Are YOU a Microsoft PR short of ideas but long on budget? Well, all find a home here. You can find out more and enter the competition here. What more is there to say, it's bananas.
