Surprise! A wild Nintendo Direct appears!
We'd heard rumblings for a few days that a Direct was incoming, and rather than announce ahead of time as Nintendo usually does, the cheeky so-and-sos have just dropped a video straight on us. It's around 12 minutes long and focuses largely on ports and DLC announcements, but with a few new games and release dates thrown in there.
The Direct opens the announcement of a Switch port of The World Ends With You, a Square Enix JRPG – not one of their largest brands, but a highly-respected title that has a history on Nintendo platforms nonetheless. The Direct also includes details on updates for Super Mario Odyssey, Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, and Pokken Tournament.
Ports of two Wii U games have been announced — Hyrule Warriors and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. There's a release date for Kirby Star Allies (16th March), and an announcement for Mario Tennis Aces. The Direct also reveals that Nippon Ichi's Ys VII: Lacrimosa of DANA is coming to Switch along with a new SNK game, SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy.
The Direct will also feature minor updates on Fe, Payday 2, and Celeste. Of course, it ends with the reveal of Dark Souls Remastered for Switch, which we reported on earlier. Unfortunately, we've still no news on Nintendo's online service, Virtual Console, or non-gaming Apps.
But why are we telling you about it? You can just watch it yourselves, right here. Enjoy!
Update 2.30pm: Added the video embed of the Direct and changed game descriptions that we'd previously left ambiguous.
