All the Details from Today's Nintendo Direct

Nintendo surprise released a Nintendo Direct Mini presentation today. Lasting a little under 15 minutes, we thought we would write up all the juicy details in case you just don't like videos.

The World Ends With You – Final Remix

Announced for Switch, this port of The World Ends With You features HD visuals, touch controls, or optional new joycon controls. The port will also include new story content. It'll release in 2018

New Pokémon DLC in Pokken Tournament DX

Pokken Tournament Deluxe is getting a couple of new paid DLC characters in the form of Battle Pack Waves 1 and 2. Wave 1 will contain Aegislash and support Pokemon Rayquaza and Mimikyu. Wave two contains Blastoise, and the new support Pokemon Mew and Celebi. The battle pack will also  include new avatar items. Wave 1 launches January 31st 2018, with wave 2 following on March 23rd.

Dragon Quest Builders Demo

A demo for Dragon Quest Builders is available today on Switch.

Kirby Star Allies

This new trailer showcased Kirby's new Painter and Spider abilities. We also saw some new combination abilities. The game launches March 16th 2018.

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition

This port of Hyrule Warriors contains all content from both the Wii U and 3DS versions of Hyrule Warriors, including DLC, on Switch. When docked the game runs at 1080p at 60FPS, and new outfits based on Breath of the Wild are added for Link and Zelda. It launches sometime in spring 2018.

Mario Aces Tennis

A new Mario Tennis game announced for Switch, Mario Aces Tennis features a story mode and is due out this spring.


A Switch port of Ys VIII has been announced for Switch – and Kotaku's own Mike Fahey reckons this is a sorely underappreciated gem. It releases summer 2018.

Super Mario Odyssey Update

A free update is coming to Super Mario Odyssey, aimed at players who have completed the main story. The update adds a mode called Balloon Mode, which can be activated by finding Luigi in each Kingdom. Players are given 30 seconds to either hide a balloon in the world, or 30 seconds to find other player's balloons, as part of online leaderboards. the update also adds new outfits, and camera filters, to the game. The update is due in February.

SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy

Fan favourite SNK female characters can be used in this new two on two tag battle fighting game on Switch. You'll need to use a special move at the end of each fight to win, which does sound a little gimmicky, but you'll be able to find out when it launches in summer.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Donkey Kong DLC

A new DLC for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle adds Donkey Kong to the game, and seemingly will add new story content in the form of a plot centred around lovable DK. It's unclear if this is THE story DLC included in the game's season pass currently. The DLC arrives in spring.


The Switch version of Payday 2 is getting a timed exclusive additional character called Joy, who is a female hacker with an LED mask. The port launches February 27th and, if the multiplayer works smoothly in handheld mode, this could be an amazing fit for the platform.


Fe is coming to Switch on February 16th. It's a very beautiful game but we still don't know an enormous amount about it.


Celeste releases on Switch January 25th. It's a game about climbing a mountain covered in spikes.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is getting a port to Switch, with a new mode where Kranky Kong can surf easily through obstacles. The port releases on May 4th.

Dark Souls Remastered

As we reported beforehand, Dark Souls is getting a Remaster for Switch. As well as visual and technical upgrades, the new version supports up to 6 player multiplayer.

And there you have it, everything that happened out of the blue today. The Switch's momentum is only getting stronger.
