Forza Horizon Studio Hires Former GTA and Metal Gear Devs For its New Open-World RPG

Toto, I don't think we're in an open-world Outback anymore.

Playground Games is moving away from the Forza Horizon series with its latest title; a game the developer describes as an "open-world action RPG." Considering that's a genre The Witcher 3 and Horizon: Zero Dawn both neatly fall into, Playground is going to need some serious firepower, and in an interview GamesIndustry.biz, it sounds like that's exactly what the studio is getting.

Juan Fernandez di Simon, Sean Eyestone, and Will Kennedy have all been recently hired by the developer, each of whom seriously good games on their respective CVs. di Simon worked as a senior designer on Hellblade, Eyestone was at Kojima Productions for a decade, and Kennedy worked on some game called Grand Theft Auto V. Perhaps you've heard of it?

As for their new roles at Playground Games, Eyestone will work as project director on this new RPG, di Simon is the principal combat designer, while Kennedy will be the chief designer.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Playground Games CEO sounded pretty darned chuff with the studio's new signings:

"We're delighted that we've secured a second studio to house our new team. This is a hugely exciting project that is already attracting world-class talent to Playground.

The combination of new blood and experienced Playground team members is already showing huge promise and I'm excited to see this talented group contribute to Playground's continued success."

If Playground's action RPG is even 37% as splendid as Horizon: Zero Dawn, I'll be tickled a particularly delighted shade of pink.
