They Made Rampage Into a Movie

By Rich Stanton on at

Hey who doesn't like Rampage? As 1980s arcade games go, it's an original idea, multiplayer, and a whole lot of fun. I mean, it is quite throwaway. Not the kind of game you'd spend much time thinking about, because what is there to think about when the setup is 'giant monsters punch buildings'? Excuse me, I need to take this call.

Highly regarded action hero Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson will soon star in the eagerly-awaited silver screen adaptat... hahahaha. I'm sorry, ahahahahaha. They made a movie out of Rampage, a game where the concept is a straight-to-video King Kong ripoff. They've made a movie out of it! With a script and people running around! It looks about as good as you'd expect, and I'd like to give a particular shout-out to the fact that Johnson seems to have some sort of quasi-telepathic lovers' bond with giant ape George.

The trailer's below. Watch it by all means but, if you support this movie, there's no telling what's next. Q*bert? Galaxian? Oh god, they're gonna build a Marvel cinematic universe out of 80s game mascots.
