Towards the end of last week, we reported on what appeared to be a real life photo of a murdered Russian diplomat finding its way into Batman: The Telltale Series, Season 2, Episode 2: The Pact. The image, which appeared to be of assassinated Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov, was used as part of a string of pictures in the episode depicting crimes committed across Gotham.
You can see the image in our original report.
In a statement issued by Telltale to Gamasutra, the company says it has submitted a patch which will remove the image from the game.
"An update to the game has been submitted this morning that will be removing the image across all platforms. We regret this incident occurred, and we are taking appropriate action internally to ensure that we continue to maintain our high standards in Production and Quality Assurance."
You'll note that the statement doesn't explicitly admit that Telltale used the photograph, nor does it address how this could have happened or take responsibility for it. Whatever the explanation, the company has shipped a game containing a recent photograph of a murdered man — and all it has to say is that the game will be patched to remove it.
There's no word on when this patch goes live.
