When Super Mario Run released earlier this year, I played it fairly religiously for several weeks, working through perfecting all its content. While much of the discussion around the game focused on the £10 in app purchase to unlock all in-game content, I just really enjoyed playing a very good mobile runner game with Nintendo levels of polish applied to its design.
I have not played it much since release, but I now have a nice incentive to come back to it. As of today, there's a free update to Mario Run which has added not only Daisy as a playable character, but also a bunch of new levels to play.
So, here's the deal. There's now ten short level remixes, which, when completed, unlock Daisy and her double jump for use in the game. But that's not all! There's also a set of completely brand-new levels too. On top of that, the game's in-app purchase is half price for the next two weeks.
I know its status as a mobile game turned a lot of people off, but there's a real charm to Super Mario Run. If you're interested, now's a great time to pick it up. Now, excuse me while I play the update at my desk and justify it to the bosses as work research.
